Location, Location?

There are, of course, always extreme exceptions to the location conundrum—farms located so very far away from customers that there’s no practical way to access local markets. For these producers, perhaps a regional co-op or a wholesale distributor might be the best marketing path, combined with mail-order shipping of value-added products to promote the farm’s brand. The internet and social media have radically changed the playing field when it comes to selling your products, and you need to be savvy. In short, don’t convince yourself that you have no alternative to commodity markets. While farming in a remote location will certainly impact your choices, never rely exclusively on the commodity system to solve this problem for you—it won’t.
